Seminar for Coaches "Olympic Education in Informal Education"

On May 22, the Lithuanian Olympic Academy called together coaches of various sports to a seminar entitled "Olympic Education in Informal Education". Sports psychologist Andrius Liachovičius familiarised the participants with types of athletes, the positive and negative qualities of each, and raised questions of what it means to listen, what ought to be done for an athlete to feel good before the start in competition. Arminas Vareika, coordinator of social programs, presented aspects of his activity and together with the coaches analysed what it means to be a good coach, what influence one has on the development of the personality of an athlete. Ramūnė Motiejūnaitė, LOA Council member and doctoral student at the University of Peloponnese, elucidated the relations between sports and culture, how Olympic values are manifested in sports, how a coach shapes the values of an athlete. After the presentations the coaches discussed in groups. Each group analysed a real situation encountered in the work of a coach and sought solutions, ways to avoid them, pointed out what influence one solution or another would have on the development of the values of an athlete. LOA vice-president prof. Algirdas Raslanas emphasised the development of a person as a personality through sports.

Enriketa Prunskienė, LOA program manager for Olympic education, was delighted that the seminar had received such great interest from coaches and wished them love and appreciation for the athletes they train, joint personal development.
