Youth Camp 2020

On August 27th - 30th, Lithuanian Olympic Academy organized a youth camp "Olympic values in student's life". First day started with a tour at Sapieha Palace, where the tour guide Donatas told many stories about the early residents of the palace. After that, we got to know Winter sports. Short-track speed skating coaches Virginija Ogulevičienė and Aleksandr Myklukha explained the details of their sports and the participants could try on the skates themselves. Biathlon coach Darius Čepulis and 2006 Olympic biathlete Karolis Zlatkauskas introduced everyone with the sport and also taught shooting technique. LOA program manager for Olympic education Ramūnė Motiejūnaitė talked at length about the history of the Olympic Games, discussed the problems of their organization.
The second day was dedicated to the Summer Olympics. The day was full of excitement, laughter, physical and mental activities. We started the day getting to know volleyball.  Vilnius children's volleyball club coach Vasilij Burakinskij taught the technique of the game. Vaiva Juškienė, Dean of the Faculty of Pedagogy at Vilnius College, presented what a leader should be, what qualities are most important, and whether everyone can be a leader. Later we tried field hockey. National team player Ugnė Chmeliauskaitė, coach  Sergejus Gavrilovas and the youth of Vilnius m. SŽK „Žuvėdra“ showed us hitting technique and we even got to play the game. After that, it was time for martial arts. We learned a few moves of Brazilian martial arts - Capoeira, and went to discuss our life quests and choices, where camp participant Elvinas shared his experience of running 100km barefoot. We finished the day with a night car orienteering competition in the city.
Morning of the third day started with light boxing exercises by „City Boxing“ club coach Aleksandras Baranovas. Later, Aušra Kriškoviecienė - the President of the Lithuanian Tricycle Association introduced us with the tricycle used by athletes with disabilities and we had an opportunity to try it ourselves. Paulius Kalvelis, Secretary General of the Lithuanian Paralympic Committee, spoke about paralympic sports, and Paralympic champion Nerijus Montvydas spoke about goalball. After a discussion with the participants, we went to the gym, where the players of the Disabled Sports Club "Atrama" introduced their sport - Wheelchair basketball. We tried the specifics of basketball while sitting in a wheelchair. After all the sports sessions, administrator of LOA - Karolis Būdava spoke about the activities of the International and Lithuanian Olympic Academies. We ended the day with a discussion about doping, its consequences and options.
The last day started with morning exercises by R. Motiejūnaitė, who introduced everyone with skiing moves and invited us for a  nordic walking session. As always the summary of the camp, LOA director Enriketa Prunskienė thanked the participants for their activity, good mood, wished that the Olympic values ​​talked about throughout the camp would find a place in their hearts, in their lives, in their environment and their families.
The camp participants said a sincere thanks  to the Lithuanian Olympic Academy and the camp coordinators - E. Prunskienė, R. Motiejūnaitė, K. Būdava - for the opportunities to discover themselves and new friends, for an opportunity to try new sports.
